Gary Holman was elected as the MLA for Saanich North and the Islands in May 2013. He serves as the lead advocate and spokesperson for Democratic Reform and is Deputy for Environment and BC Ferries.
Gary was a consulting economist for more than 25 years, working on projects such as the Nisga’a Treaty and land and resource management planning throughout BC. He served as Salt Spring Island’s Capital Regional District Director for six years, helping to establish the island’s first public transit system.
Long involved in B.C.’s land trust movement, Gary has worked to build coalitions between environmental groups to protect green space and drinking water. He lives on Salt Spring Island, has two daughters, Eren and Amber, and a stepson, Owen.
I’m drawn to projects that involve groups of people; to that kind of collaboration among individuals trying to accomplish big things… to how we can all work together to make things happen. I’m a conservationist who sees the world through the eyes of an economist. I understand the need to conserve scarce resources and the value of the unique amenities of this very special place.
